A Story of Health is a first-of-its-kind multimedia eBook that explores how our environmental factors, such as socioeconomic, toxic chemicals, nutritional, built and psychosocial, interact with our genes to influence health across the lifespan. This new resource (see www.healthandenvironment.org) uses the lives of fictional characters and their families to feature the latest peer-reviewed scientific research about contributors to a specific disease endpoint, including childhood leukemia, asthma and learning disabilities. It also provides suggestions for helpful steps to take towards disease prevention on the individual, community and societal levels. As part of this session, we’ll look at our own “stories of health” as well and how our interactions with different environments have shaped who we are.

Join Elise Miller, director of the Collaborative for Health and the Environment (and beloved Whidbey boys’ soccer coach and WOW!Stories speaker), to learn more about the multiple factors that influence our health and how we can improve our health by tending to the health of our environment.
