Dear beloved community,
We have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to secure the Healing Circles building’s future as a thriving center for healing, connection, and community spirit for generations to come.
What’s the story? Wanting to give back to the wonderful community that supported me during my then 20+ year history with cancer, Kelly and I founded Healing Circles Langley in 2015 in partnership with Michael Lerner, co-founder and CEO of Commonweal.
Healing Circles Langley opened its doors and arms with the mission of providing free social and emotional support to anyone from the Whidbey community. We evolved into a welcoming space of deep belonging. Our services have always been offered by volunteers who have found great benefit in serving others.
Before the pandemic, Healing Circles Langley grew to be a creative community gathering place with circles, classes, and conversations that met a wide range of needs. People walked through our doors 600 times a month, we offered 12-20 Community Conversations per year, and Healing Circles Langley became a place where someone welcomed you with open arms on your toughest days.
Two weeks into the pandemic lockdown, we continued that welcome online and moved all of our circles to Zoom. Our community responded with 30 different types of online circles to help us with the anxiety and uncertainty of the pandemic. We were an inspiration to others far beyond our shores. We helped launch Healing Circles Global and have trained people from 32 countries and offered more than 50,000 service hours.
Unfortunately, something else was growing—a brain tumor in Kelly’s brain. He died in February 2020 just before the pandemic lockdown.
Before he left us, he wanted to give a major gift to Healing Circles Langley. I have matched his gift, and Commonweal, our 501c3, has matched mine. Generous local donors have offered a match for the remaining Whidbey community’s share. This means your contribution to making this happen will be matched 3.5 times! We are almost there. Please be a part of it today.
With deep gratitude,
